trevor :: 22nd week / 5 months

I just found this blog post that I never posted, so posting it now. :)

7/8/14

trevor: grabs his toes, uses his feet to grab hanging toys, nursing to sleep at bedtime now to avoid crying, sunday night he slept 8-8 with one feeding at 530 but that's the only night for a while, possibly transitioning to 2-3 naps a day and staying awake for longer than 2 hours now.

--------------------
7/4/14

this was 4th of july week! al worked 8 hours monday, 16 tuesday, 8 wed, 12 thurs, & 12 friday; uffda! needless to say he wasn't able to be a part of the festivities this year. but mom came down on thursday to bloomer and then on friday, the 4th we went up to my great aunt sara jane & great uncle gordon's cabin. we went up there every year on the 4th when i was younger, and i hadn't been up there in years. it was only about 1.5 hours from our house. everyone there was happy to see us and loved trevor. he was held by lots of people! it was a great day, a little windy off the lake so trevor stayed mostly inside but i went swimming and we chatted with lots of people. trevor was the youngest by 10+ years so it was fun for all them to have a baby around. made me happy to be up there again.

we came back to bloomer that night, didn't see any fireworks, but it was a good 4th. saturday mom stayed most of the day and we got a bunch done around the house, mostly outside since it was gorgeous out.

after i posted on facebook about trevor not likely to fall asleep, i got lots of suggestions and decided to try an earlier bedtime for him. beditme is tricky as a stay at home mom because i don't have to get up at a certain time and kind of wanted him to sleep a bit longer in the morning to get as close as possible to al's schedule. but we did an 8 o'clock bedtime (we were doing 9 or 930ish) and he's sleeping better, longer, easier. so far. hopefully it continues. i also nursed him to sleep all this week when i could which made bedtime a lot less stressful for me. he slept from about 8-8 with 1 or 2 feedings in there in which he falls asleep when he's done. hopefully that was the issue.

he also only took 2 naps on saturday so we'll see if that continues. he was doing 3 or 4 short (45 min to an hour) naps prior, so 2 longer naps would be easier to get stuff done around the house and have some time to get back to my books. he's still not super strong holding his head up so we try to do lots of tummy time and sitting up time. we'll be giving him some cereal mixed with breast milk in a couple weeks so we need him to sit in his highchair well by then.

sunday was rainy so we did stuff around the house and then monday trevor and i drove up to mom's for softball. softball ended up getting cancelled while we were in the parking lot due to rain; so many rain outs this year. early tuesday morning we got word that trevor's buddy, baby zeidler, had come into the world. we can't wait to meet cal; he's adorable! tuesday morning we drove back to bloomer to see al for a bit before he had to go to work his 12 hour shift. ugh, so much overtime (he has 2 more 12 hour shifts next week and lots coming in august); it's good for the money and for job security but we want to see al too.

trevor :: 16th week

4/27/14

trevor: i think we're in the midst of the 4 month sleep change that i was unaware of. most nights last week and this, he was up multiple times during the night, sometimes every hour. i'm so tired! thank goodness i looked it up tho or else i would have had no idea there was such a thing & it was normal/to be expected. he also may be teething just a bit; he's constantly drooling and chewing on something, usually his hands. getting used to the warmer weather and being in less clothes.

----------------------------------------------

since we stayed up at mom's, wednesday we were at mom's during the day by ourselves. we spent some time outside, doing laundry, making food, napping and doing the mother's day puzzle we made for mom. then wednesday night al came up, we had dinner and i got to play softball with my ladies (i can't play on thatt eam this year due to living so far & having a baby). mom, al, and trevor came to watch; we won and it was fun to play with them again!

thursday morning al had an interview in hudson and we all headed back home and got a bunch of stuff done during the day (mowed, winter clothes away/summer clothes out, vw key, unpacked, etc). wed & thurs were all of al's weekend, which meant his weekend was pretty much shot :( friday he went back to work and worked 12 hours on both saturday and sunday, memorial day weekend.

this weekend it got hot, quick. and humid. saturday we went back up to mom's and spent time outside when we weren't too hot and ran some errands. we are preparing for the lake (week vacation with my mom's side up north) so we got some things done for that and i am continuely adding things to my need-to-pack list. so strange having to pack for a baby too this year :) trevor slept better this weekend at mom's than he had been (before i found out about the 4 month sleep thing, i thought he just wasn't sleeping good at moms, but i read that it's made worse by being off routine, which he is at mom's most of the time.)

monday was memorial day so no softball.

other than that not too much, just figuring out how to be in this suddenly hot weather. i thought we'd have a bit of a transition, but i was thrown into it and i have no idea what to dress trevor in during the day or at night. if he's too hot or chilly or what. so confusing, i'm used to layering him up and putting blankets on him. we got to take mutliple walks outside without having a blanket on him and him just in a onsie!!
so cute! i love that his ears stick out a bit now,
and his hair is growing.
 i found something he has of mine: that bottom lip :)
 1st lifejacket (might be a bit big)
i got it at a garage sale for $1
 booster seat found at same garage sale
 outside in only a onsie!!

 it's hard work being batman

trevor :: 8th week

a little comparison shot
lots of firsts this week:

smile: wednesday evening, while i was playing with trevor on the floor, he smiled in response to me. he had been looking at books then i pulled his head up straight and put my face in front of him and smiled. he smiled back! later in the week, he started smiling in the mornings too; more than usually which makes me hope those real smiles keep coming. that night i also tried putting him in a bumbo chair for the first time; he did pretty good with neck control but he got the hiccups right when i put him in there, so i took him out. he still gets the hiccups everyday.
blurry due to hiccups;
and he looks like a turtle :)

poop: then thursday (al's first day off) i took tator outside to run and when i came back in, al & trevor were up in trevor's room on his changing table. al never takes him up there to change him, so i went up and trevor had his first blow out. right on daddy. :) it came out the diaper, all over his side/back, down his leg (inside his outfit). it was kinda funny but probly only because it wasn't on me. i thought he might be less gassy/fussy after that, but he wasn't; he was an unhappy boy until he crashed. speaking of that, i read that during weeks 6-8, infants typically go through a gassy/fussy phase where their tummys and insides are getting used to pushing out gas/poop when it needs to. so that made me feel much better about it.

sleep: trevor is getting better at self soothing at night and putting himself to sleep. at night, if it's bath night he gets a bath, then some play time including reading/singing, and then i feed him. i then typically put him in the playpen. before he'd usually be asleep when i did this but lately he's been awake. so he lays in there and looks around and does well until he's about to fall asleep. he then starts fussing a little bit, but i can now tell the difference between this tired fuss and an actual cry. so before i try the nuk, i let him fuss a bit and most nights this week, he's fussed himself right to sleep and stayed asleep! after this, he also goes 5 or 6 hours between feedings which mean we get a bunch of sleep (well, relative to what we were getting). it's glorious! i forgot what it felt like to wake up with sleep in my eyes :)

saturday morning trevor, tator and i headed up to mom's (our first time without al, which i was nervous about, but they both did really well and slept the whole time.) saturday afternoon was our shower thrown by the wednesday night ladies softball team at gaylene's house. it was a great shower and so nice to see my ladies!! then saturday evening, judie, angi and ruby came over to visit; they loved trevor and ruby is getting so big, she's walking already! trevor's routine was a bit off due to driving, meeting lots of people, and having to feed him before he wanted it a couple times (2 hours instead of 3-4 hours.) this meant that he didn't get a long nap like he usually does in the afternoons, so he took it from 6-8pm. not good for sleeping all night then; we were awake from 2 until 7ish. luckily mom got up at 7 and took him so that i could sleep. i need to be more aware that he needs to get in one good nap each day that is not after 6pm.
sunday we went to visit uncle jimmy, auntie diane and cousin kai with mom. when we got back the neighb's came over (steve & tina, and angie & anika) to meet trevor. then we went to target to pick up a few things. mom really makes us go, go, go. :) we also went for a walk sunday evening because it was so nice out; trevor really loves being outside! he got more sleep this day so he slept really good sunday night again.
monday morning early we headed back home to bloomer and daddy who was glad to see us! trevor had some hard cries monday during the day and i eventually figured out that it was because he was hungry (at least i think that's what is was) even though it had only been 2.5 hours. that night he only went 3 or 3.5 hours between feedings. possible growth spurt? can't wait to see his measurements on friday at his 2 month checkup. (holy crap, 2 months already!?!?)
i wanted to get a picture of his little blonde swirl
and mullet :) (hard to see but so cute!)
 getting so good at tummy time!
 wearing his first hoodie :)
 knocked out after our walk
 he's been into eating his fists,
even just after he's eaten
(not a sign of hunger)
 love when he sleeps on me!
also, crazy outta control mullet hair
and knuckle dimples!! :]
