wednesday we had Rue. i worked out at noon. Al had his appointment with his elbow surgeon for his knee at 1130. he had to have xrays on his leg, meet with the athletic trainer, the surgeon's nurse, the surgeon, have his fancy knee brace fitted, and then have xrays on his elbow again. surgeon confirmed patellar tendon needed repair and that was the most pressing issue. no main ligaments torn within the knee (thank goodness) just one little one on the side of the kneecap, but he doesn't surgically repair that one in any patient so unless Al had kneecap instability (which the dr doesn't expect) he won't need to have surgery on that. they scheduled surgery for friday. uffda! Trev had his last flag footbal camp at 5pm.
thursday Al had his first PT for his elbow at 845, so I borrowed jodi's van; we dropped him off then the kids and i went to a playground and the dollar tree before picking Al up. Shortly after getting home, Al's coworker dropped off a wheel chair Al can borrow from the county and then Al got a bad migraine. he was out of it all day/night. It was REALLY hot and humid this day but i finally got our pool set up. after quiet time the kids played in the pool for a bit before we had to go to soccer. it was trev's last summer soccer game at 545 and it was hot!
friday mom came down bright and early to hang with the kids because we had to be at Al's surgery at 830. they were running on time this time around so we got to his room right away and i got to come with him the whole time. we waited less than an hour and the surgeon came in. then within a half hour he was taken back; 10:24! I got to stay in his room so i had my own bathroom, computer stand and tv! the "hour long" surgery took 2 hours again. I saw the surgeon walk by the room so I stopped and said "you're done?" He said Al once again threw him for a loop; it wasn't what he expected when he opened Al up, again. instead of tearing his patella tendon right off the kneecap, like most people do/normal, Al tore his in half. so it took longer than expected again. and Al took a long time to wake up again too. and he was in a lot of pain upon waking so we stayed in the hospital a while before heading home.
the first couple days were rough for Al; lots of pain (compared to elbow) and couldn't really move around by himself much. lots of swelling.
sunday shane, jodi and the boys came down to help and deliver lots of food jodi had prepped for us. freezer meals and such. kids played, went swimming in our little pool, and had fun. then Al's mom and rick stopped by with food too. they all left about supper time and we were all pooped. so we had supper, watched a movie and went to bed.
monday was Al's post op appointment and it was hard to get him out of the house, into the car, into the clinic, and he's not light to push in a wheel chair. got his ace bandage taken off and he almost passed out upon seeing his scar. he got compression sleeves for his leg which were way more comfortable for him than the ace bandage. they prescribed him a stronger anti-inflammatory medication and told us his leg will likely be locked straight for 4 weeks (we were originally told 0-2 weeks.) it's gonna be a long rehab for this knee. got him back in the car, picked up his meds and headed home.
still no pictures since my phone died :(
