2015 :: Alaska (part 2)

part 2 starts on Friday after the bbq at molly's house after we slept at Diane's house, the house that Al grew up in.

Friday morning we had breakfast at Rick's house then went to a park by the river, walked along the boardwalk which included seeing fly fishermen, and the played at a cool playground. Trevor fell asleep in the car on the way to the park at about 930ish and was out! that night Diane made halibut that she caught for dinner and it was fantastic!!!

 we ate most of our meals at Rick's house (just down the road from Diane's house and where they currently live as they are trying to sell Diane's house). we loved the deck there and spent most of our time there. here is grandpa Rick teaching trevor how to fish on a pole that Al used when he was little.

 they had a little tent set up for him to play in

 playing on a boat buoy

 Friday night at dusk (about 11ish), mom and I went moose scouting since we wanted to see some moose. we were out for about an hour and saw 6! they are SO big!!
here's the first one we saw, chomping away in a swampy area.
it was a full moon and it was huge!
 the other 5 moose we saw were right next to or in the road. here's one of the bulls we saw with velvet antlers.

 swimming at brown's lake, which is just down the road from Diane's house, where Al would swim/play in lots when he was little.
just a beautiful lake with mountains in the background, no big deal...

 on Saturday, after a pancake breakfast at Rick's house, we drove up to the beach at captain cook park in Nikiski and had lunch by the ocean with mountains in the back ground. the tide was low so we could walk down there in the rocks and mud. Diane and Molly came with us.

I climbed up a big rock with a fish on it

 after the beach at the park, we drove a little ways further to bishop creek that flowed into the ocean. the creek was clear and swimmable, so the kids were playing in the mud and when they were fully covered, they'd wash off in the creek.

Sunday we were up early due to the curtain in our room falling down and it being light out at 430 am. so we ran into town for some shopping then back for Trevor's nap which started at 10 am :) we then tried to swim at brown's lake again but there were locals there including lots of kids and dogs, so we didn't stay long. we then had a grill out at Rick's house, T had another wash basin bath/swim, and we had a fire & roasted marshmallows. it was still a bit hot for a fire, but it was Trevor's first bonfire.

Mom, Al and I played cards at night after trevor went to bed or at nap time. it got dark about midnight and light about 430 am, so confusing! :) we didn't see much mountains in Soldotna but on the road to Diane's house we could see mountains in the distance and the road to Rick's house we could see the volcano, mt redoubt in the distance.
