we had a fantastic week at the lake! not the best weather; just one day with perfect weather (Thursday) but so much fun! so many games, playing with cousins, lake stuff, fishing, etc!
friday we packed up and drove the edge, boat, and volkswagon up to mom's house. then we all got in the edge pulling the boat and headed out for uncle jimmy's cabin. we stayed there friday night with uncle jimmy, nana, kai, maren and her 3 girls. it was a gorgeous night with no mosquitos since it's been so dry! after bedtime, the adults played fast track and it was so fun! so fun to have time with just maren and kai!! i also spent some time on the dock by myself and got to watch a muskrat swim and eat until he started climbing up the dock at me. haha!
saturday morning, Al and i ran in to park rapids to grab groceries, mn fishing license and some booze. then we laid tova down for a nap and headed into park rapids to have our favorite royal bar burgers for lunch with maren, kai and the girls (mom stayed with tova.) we were just finishing up eating when a bunch of other family members came into the royal. we went back to uncle jimmy's cabin where everyone else laid down for a quick nap. then mom headed to the resort, we packed up our stuff and headed out, and then maren and uncle jimmy left after us. we got to the resort and unloaded in our new cabin. we moved into the condos this year since we needed another bedroom and wanted the a/c. it was so nice and was so much space! us olesons stayed upstairs and mom and tyler were in teh bedrooms downstairs.
the first part of the week was chilly and windy, but it was good sleeping and it didn't keep the kids out of the lake. the lake is already usually shallow but was extra shallow this year due to lack of rain, and it was super sandy due to zebra muscles taking over. it made for perfect swimming area for the kids. we played lots of games including my new favorite, carcassonne, and got the cribbage tournament going. trevor got to play in the tourney for the first time this year and he pulled me as his partner!! he did so good and impressed a lot of people with his skills! we made it to the semi-finals and the top3 teams before getting eliminated. impressive! he carried us!
tova mostly played with Etta and Leni; Etta often came to our cabin and they played upstairs. trevor mostly played with nate, noah and ryan but the big kids all played together and intermingled. it was so fun to see and watch them all play!
i got to got fishing at night with Al and Tyler monday night and it was cold but we got some good fish! i caught my first actual northern and walleye!! tyler got a monster walleye, as did Al but Tyler knocked Al's off with the net before we could fully see it. it was fun! after coming back in we all played games outside maren's cabin and had lots of fun! except the next day Al and Kai were sick with a cold.
Al got to fish every night except tuesday since that's our girls night. our theme this year was animals and i was a penguin. it was fun! we had games, appetizers, and then went out on the boat. then we went to the bar and i hung out with khloe outside.
Al had to leave on wednesday due to work/country fest. he took the edge but not the boat, and then dropped the edge off at mom's and then drove the vw home. it got more exhausting having the kids by myself up there but it was still fun and worth it! wednesday night after it rained it was gorgeous out! so we took out auntie polly and uncle ron's new deck boat. it was travis driving, tyler taking pics, polly skiied, mary and i wakeboarded and it was awesome!! so beautiful and such a nice night & boat!!
thursday was our nice day! almost everyone was in the lake most of the day! it was sunny and nice and blue skies!
friday was windy again but hot out and we spent it outside soaking up the weather, lake and cousin time. my brother left friday afternoon so i packed up a bunch of our stuff to send with him and he took the boat so i packed that up.
saturday morning lots of the out of state family left very early and so we took our time. had breakfast, packed up mom's car and then said goodbye to the rest of the people left. we got back to mom's house and stayed there until sunday when we headed home.
we had a great week!!
