2017 :: 32/52 :: Trevor's eye surgery

Al had Tuesday-sunday off this week for Trevor's surgery. Wednesday morning we ran some errands, played at a park, and had Chinese for lunch. then after nap Al grilled brats and shrimp and made some awesome shrimp sauce for supper. we watched a movie before bed.

Thursday morning I went garage saling and to a consignment sale while Al and T went to the children's museum. once I got back, I saw Jodi and the kids at the park down the street so I walked down there. I flagged Al down on their drive back and he dropped Trevor off to play with his friends at the park for a while. when we got home, Al had lunch made then books and nap. Thursday night after work, mom came down to go with us bright and early the next morning for T's surgery.

A 4 am alarm woke us on Friday morning, when Al, mom and I got ourselves ready for the drive/day in Marshfield. then we loaded up the car, I grabbed T from bed, had him go potty and put him right in his carseat. he slept the whole way to Marshfield. we needed to check in at 630, we got there just after 6 am. checked trevor in, went potty, and played/waited in the waiting room. a little after 7 we were called back to trevor's prep room where we met a lot of nurses and doctors, T got changed into his gown, vitals taken, the kid's nurse heather came in with some toys to ease T, and then he was given the first of 3 things for the anesthesia (just a muscle relaxer). soon after a large male nurse came and said it was time to go, and before i knew it Trevor was walking away surrounded by nurses and i couldn't go with him. i bawled! after calming down, we went back to the waiting room where 5 minutes later heather came out and told us T was sleeping peacefully and she had played with him the whole time. that helped me a bit plus they'd told us his muscle relaxer would also help him not remember much.

we had a chart on a tv to watch and we saw that his surgery started at 735 and was supposed to be done by 935. at about 9 am his line turned orange meaning he was done or close to it. shortly after, Dr Anderson came out to tell us the surgery went well. we were anxious to see T after that but he slept quite a while in the first recovery room (which we weren't allowed to go in) and finally they came to get us saying he was waking up. i swear the nurse walking us back to him couldn't have walked any slower; i was so anxious to see him and hold him! we saw his little blonde head on a bed and when we got up to him he was curled in a ball whimpering. i said, "hi baby" and he sat up quickly and said, "hi momma." i picked him up, he laid his head on my shoulder and started quietly crying again. i said, "it's ok, momma's here" and he stopped crying and fell asleep. we got a small room to recover/wake up in but he didn't really wake up much, mostly just laid/slept on me. he did have some apple juice and 2 small popsicles. eventually he wanted to get up and go to nana, so he walked over. a nurse came in to give us info and another came in to do his last set of vitals. we then got him dressed, carried him out for all of us to pee, and then i carried him out to the car. he slept the entire way home, even when we stopped for food (we hadn't eaten much all morning).

the rest of Friday Trevor was still pretty out of it, and really sleepy. he took an hour and a half nap in bed with nana, fell asleep on the couch, and couldn't keep his eyes open very long at a time. the rest of the weekend was a bit of a rough, slow recovery. his eyes looked horrible, he would whimper/cry a lot, he had lots of ibuprofen and Tylenol, didn't sleep great, and had a hard time opening his eyes after waking up especially in the mornings. the brightness of the sun was a lot for him to take in the mornings. they had told us by the second day he'd be back to his normal self and should have little to no pain. but that wasn't really the case for T. we played a lot of games and took lots of little rests for his eyes. putting in his anti-bacterial drops were not easy but with 2 or 3 of us, we got them in.

mom left sunday morning and then i drove up about 2 for my great aunt sara jane's birthday party and for softball at 5. we won against a good team and then i drove back home to ec to help Al with the pm drops.

Monday morning it again took T a good half hour to open his eyes in the morning and not to cry from the brightness (it was even cloudy that day and we didn't open the curtains). i wasn't feeling good about his recovery from what they had told us, so i called the doctor/nurse. i first talked to the nurse and she sounded concerned and asked where we lived (assuming we were probly going to need to go in at that point). she took down all i told her about T and said she'd call back after taking to dr Anderson. an hour later, we heard from her and dr Anderson said everything T was going through was normal and some kids are just more sensitive than others. Monday morning i saw yellow in T's eyes and wasn't sure if that was healing or infection, but she said it was healing, kind of like a bruise turns yellow as it's healing. so we didn't have to go in, just keep moving forward and giving T ibuprofen to help ease the swelling and pain. Al worked only Monday this week, so once he left for work, T and i went over to Jodi's to play outside with our friends for a little bit. T wore his sunglasses the whole time and it was nice for both of us to get out of the house and see our friends. then we came home for lunch and nap (T didn't nap until 3 pm, much more normal for him :]). hoping we're on the up swing and my boy's poor eyes are better soon!! also really hoping he won't remember any of this.

not many pictures this week and i'm not yet comfortable posting pics of his poor eyes. i may come back and add them later so i know where they are.

2017 :: 19/52

Tuesday morning, after breakfast, I cleaned up a bunch and Al helped me get the donation stuff into the car. so once Al was getting ready for work, Trevor and I ran it over and dropped it off. then we went to Jodi's to play and as we were leaving T had his biggest meltdown in the car. he had already had a morning of not listening and being mean, and then the meltdown was a lot. after lunch he took a 3 hour and 15 minute nap. after nap, we were outside or in the porch until 7pm. we had snack and supper in the porch, played mostly in the backyard, and watered our plants. then in for a movie so I could put laundry away, clean up, and get ready for the next morning/day.

Wednesday morning was Trevor's eye appointment in Marshfield at 930am. we got up early, had breakfast in the car, and drove to Marshfield. we got in right away and trevor was finally old enough to do the color blindness test and the 3d vision test and he passed both. after the doctor came in and did the usual tests, he explained to us that trevor's vision/cross eyes had stabilized and he felt more comfortable doing the surgery now. he also told us he was retiring in December and he'd like to be able to do trevor's surgery and post-op appointments so would like to get the surgery in this summer. we decided on august, so once we check on Al's work schedule to make sure he can get time off, we'll schedule the surgery. it will be out patient, lasts an hour 15 minutes, and trevor should have no pain and no limited activities other than not swimming for a week.

after the appointment, we went to our usual animal park and walked around. we then drove to Wausau, grabbed lunch, and met grandpa peter & auntie althea at Jeremy's house. we grabbed 7 bucket-fulls of rocks for our front garden bed from his house since he wants to get rid of the rock anyway. and then gpa peter and auntie althea got to see trevor. after a nature trail walk at Jeremy's house, we hit the road home. trevor did not sleep on the ride home, so we put him down for nap once we were home.

Thursday was my usual garage saling day and Al had off so he played with trevor all morning. then Al had his eye appointment (his vision got worse :(. then we went to the neighb's house for yummy tacos for supper.

this weekend it got hot out!! up into or close to the 80s! Al worked at 7pm on Friday so in the morning, T and I walked over to Jodi's house after stopping at 2 garage sales. we played outside there until lunch time then home to see Al and for nap. After nap, T and I drove up to the cities where we stopped at mom's quick to drop our stuff off, then went over to papa's house to see papa, grandpa neil, uncle munk and unc-o. we played outside with them for an hour then my dad had to leave, so T, unc-o and I grabbed supper and ate/played at mom's house until bed time.

Saturday morning, T, mom and I drove down to maren's house where I got to hold baby etta! then mom took Tula and Trevor to the park in their backyard while maren and I dug up some flowers for me to take home. we left about 11ish back to mom's house for a picnic lunch and nap time. after naptime, I went over to shane and Jodi's house for a little get together for Jodi's masters degree graduation. we had a grill out and bonfire, and I got to hold my baby Henrik! it was a good time and the first time in a long time that Jodi and I got to have real, full conversations since we didn't have toddlers running around. :) I ended up staying until midnight.

sunday was mother's day. after breakfast we went out in mom's backyard and got some things done. we planted her garden and played. then Trevor, Tyler and I drove over to woodbury to drop the flowers we'd planted off at my grama's grave and then stopped at papa's house to see him and auntie lynne after church. T and unc-o played Frisbee while we waited, and great uncle barry and great aunt Brenda stopped by on their way from church too. then back to mom's for homemade pizza for lunch. after nap, was softball time. we had lots of subs and our only left handed player forgot his softball stuff so we did not have high hopes for the game. after the first 2 innings we were down 7 runs but we ended up winning by 3 runs! I hit awesome and got on every time, I also had some great stretching catches at first for double plays!! then back to mom's for a little bike ride/walk down to the neighb's to meet their new weiner dog puppy, Charlie!

Monday morning, T and I headed home after a stop at the big, fun park in woodbury. once home, we unpacked, watered/checked on our plants/garden, played, got T's shorts out to be washed, and had lunch. then during nap time I planted the plants from maren quick before it rained.

2016 :: 45/52

funny T story: he's been really into his stuffies this week and has even been sleeping with his mini dino pillow, so they're usually strewn about his room. one day this week when he was in his crib for nap, he started crying kinda hard. I thought his foot was stuck in the crib slats so I went in there. when he saw me he said, "momma, the giraffe looking at me. me no like it." I looked over and sure enough the giraffe he'd gotten from grandpa neil and papa's house was standing up beside his chair staring right at him. I chuckled to myself, agreed with him, then moved the giraffe. once I was out of his room I cracked up; the giraffe's eyes were kinda creepy! also, then end of the week was a rough one with T between the tantrums and hitting/kicking/pulling hair, and then not napping and refusing to sit on the potty, I had to keep my patience in check.

Al was off Tuesday through Thursday this week.

Tuesday morning we met up with Jodi and chloe, Easton, and baby Evrett after they dropped cam off for school. we went on a walk, stopped at a little park we've not been to yet, then walked over to Jodi's house. we played there until lunch time then went home for lunch and nap. after nap we played outside until it was dark and then went to cancun with the neighb's.

Wednesday morning we got up early, ate breakfast, then drove to Marshfield for Trevor's eye appointment. I have been seeing his eye crossing more often then it was so we were happy to be getting in to see the doctor. he came in, did the usual tests, and then used some glass prisms that he'd not used before. we then had to wait for Trevor's eyes to dilate before some more tests. then the doctor discussed with us what he saw. for the first time since we've been going to him, Trevor's eyes weren't getting better, they had actually gotten worse (the crossing). and it's not just when he's tired now, it's when he's looking at anything detailed and up close. his vision is good, just the muscles never developed correctly to keep them from crossing. so he's going to need surgery on both eyes within the next couple years. we'll see dr Anderson again in 6 months and he's pretty confident Trevor's eyes will have got worse by then, possibly significantly worse. it sounded to me like he's expecting to schedule the surgery at our next appointment in may. it'll be an out patient surgery and dr. Anderson does the surgery but still scary for us! there's really no recovery time, T will be able to see right after and other than swelling and redness, it won't affect him. he said it's possible that it's hereditary since Peter, Al and now Trevor having crossing eyes, but there's no data on whether it's a fact.

after the eye appointment, we went to the Marshfield wildwood zoo as usual and it was so nice out! the sun was harsh on little boy's dilated eyes tho! we walked the loop of animals twice and the bears were finally there and active; they were so friendly! we had lunch, then drove home, of course T didn't nap on the ride home.

Wednesday night, we raked leaves until it was dark (T didn't nap so we were outside by 4) and took 2 more 10 bag loads to the compost and 5 paper bags on the curb for the garbage to collect. then after bath, one of Trevor's bath toys went down the tub drain (there was no grate over it) and was backing up the water. we tried some simple things to get it out with no luck. after T was in bed, we googled it and got some ideas to try the next day. Al tried them all and couldn't get it out, and ended up not being able to get the pipes apart and breaking a bolt on one part (it was so old it just crumbled), so we had to call a plumber.

Thursday morning, T and I went to Irvine park with Jodi, chloe, kade and Easton (we had chloe in our car with us). it was beautiful out and we had a great time looking at the animals, playing at the parks, and having a picnic lunch. after nap, we walked up to the park until it was dark, had tacos for supper, got some things done around the house, then watched finding dory for a movie night.

Friday morning, T and I did crafts after breakfast, ran some errands, then walked to Jodi's house for a little bit before heading back for lunch with Al. T didn't nap even though he was very crabby before nap.

Saturday morning mom came down, then we dropped Trevor off with matt and the kids, and picked up Jodi and Kassie. we had a girls morning where we went to a craft show at an elementary school and then went to our favorite store, the shed. we all got some cute things and had a good time. meanwhile, the plumber came to our house to fix the bathtub piping/toy issue. we got his name nad number from matt and he was awesome! he was here for 1.5 hours plus parts and it was only $100; it could have been so expensive, so thankful! we picked trevor up about 130, went home for lunch and then T didn't nap again. mom and I crafted during Trevor's trying to nap time and then we went back over to matt and Jodi's for supper and more crafting with Jodi.

sunday morning mom left about 10ish and T and I just relaxed until Al got up for lunch, football and nap for Trevor. after nap we just hung out at home.

Monday morning after breakfast, T and I ran to target and then walked over to Jodi's house. we were home from lunch and nap, and then hung out at home all night. we have been pretty tired and not feeling great; must be the weather.
