trevor :: 23rd week

7/15/14

trevor: ate cereal for the first time, sitting up much better, will hold himself up for a little bit if i just hold his hips and in his bumbo seat, grabbing his toes this week but hasn't got them into his mouth yet, no indication or feel of teeth yet, not sleeping well at all, laughs by himself at things now

-----------------

not too much went on this week especially since i was so tired. the whole week treovr woke up a minimum of 3 times every night, usually more. i'm pretty convinced it's gas as he wriggles and wiggles and worms around until he toots and then i'm able to get him back to sleep. although if it's been 3 hours since his last feeding, i'll feed him if he's awake as well in hopes of keeping him asleep longer after that and in case he's hungry. he hasn't turned away from food yet :) but i'm not sure if that's the best bet, if it's creating more gas because he doesn't then sleep longer. mid-week i decided to see if it's something i'm eating so i cut out all dairy (although i wasn't having much dairy to start with), gluten and eggs. we also bought colic calm as we heard that it works wonders.

friday once al was awake and before he headed to work, we went into eau claire to start the process of possibly moving into a townhome in eau claire. we will not be able to afford another winter in this big, cold house especially when trevor will be mobile and i can't put him under 5 blankets or hold him all the time to keep him warm as i did after he was born. we also picked up the colic calm and stopped and my previous boss robin's garage sale so they could see trevor.

saturday evening we gave trevor his first food: oatmeal cereal. i pumped 2 tablespoons of milk and mixed in 1 teaspoon of cereal. it was very liquidy but i fed it to him via spoon (i had been sticking a spoon in his mouth for a couple of days while he was in his highchair just to see what he'd do). he did just fine with it but i figured it was just like milk, maybe a tiny bit thicker, from a spoon. so then i put almost another full teaspoon of cereal in so it was a little bit thicker and he did good with that too. it was still pretty liquidy and he didn't really mouth it, so i may need to make it thicker or wait a bit to try again. i wanted to try it for the first time when al was here so i figured we'd just go for it. i'll probably pump a little bit here and there so we have some milk on hand for next time.

monday softball was cancelled again so we hung out with my mom and headed home on tuesday. tuesday i was stressed from having very little sleep (trevor woke up 8 times monday night), trying to decide on moving and possibly al changing jobs, packing, planning, etc. but it looks like we'll be moving into a townhome in eau claire, right next to our friends, the risen's. it's much, much smaller than the house we're in now and right in the middle of the city. hard to think how we'll all do in the city again, especially tator. so very sad to leave this house and the cats; it's the house we brought tator and trevor home to. :(

tuesday, i brought trevor into the doctor to see if they could help with his gas and lack of sleep. they didn't find anything and didn't offer any other suggestions of things to try. i can't wait for our real doctor, dr sarumi, to get back from maternity leave. i'm not a fan of this other doctor we've been seeing in the mean time. we'll just continue gas drops and gripe water, and hope that he outgrows it soon so we can sleep. she also told me to add everything back into my diet since it doesn't seem like that helped anything.

i bought an ice cream bucket full of local strawberries and made my first attempt at freezer jam with them, as well as ate a bunch and froze some individual berries for trevor in the future (probably in his mesh teether bag thing). i also froze some mashed bananas and sweet potatos for baby food! can't believe we're almost there; the doctor told us to start/attempt baby food at about 5.5 months.

trevor is all smiles in the mornings, which is delightful especially after lack of sleep nights! he's pretty easy during the day too! i think i'm finally figuring out how to get him down for naps without him screaming! he can now go longer awake between sleeps, so it's 2 hours first thing in the morning then 3 hours in between after that. so about those times, i watch him and he'll rub his eyes when he's tired. i then carry him on his tummy on my one arm for a bit, then i turn him over with his head & upper body in my left arm, tuck his one arm under him/under my left arm, put his pacifier in, hold his other arm down with my left hand in a mock swaddle, then tuck his legs under my right arm and pat his back/bottom. it's a lot but i think i have it down and it really helps to hold him like that since he's such a squirmer. he usually then falls asleep pretty quickly, usually without crying!! hooray!! i have been nursing him to bed every night as part of our routine now.
 he can get his pacifier in his mouth now,
well kind of :)
