2017 :: 34/52

Al had Wednesday and Thursday off this week as his weekend and then he took Friday-sunday off to go to the cabin with us.

Wednesday morning we all drove to Marshfield for Trevor's post op appointment. pre-surgery the doctor thought this might be our last visit to him, but after the appointment, we have to go back in 3 months. but dr Anderson says his eyes look good and normal, but are still swollen and healing so he wants to see T back to ensure everything is aligned. Trevor couldn't see or identify some of the shapes the nurse tested him on but the doc wasn't worried about that either, said that could be due to the swelling still. his eyes look mostly white and yellow so that's good! after the appointment we went to the wildwood zoo as usual and it was beautiful out! we saw all the animals and even got to see the bear walk through his bridge over the sidewalk. then we went to get lunch and ate it at a picnic table at the park. after lunch, T played at the play ground for a while then we headed home. once home T napped. after nap, T and I played trouble outside while Al mowed. then supper and Al and T played while I packed for our weekend at the cabin.

Thursday morning, cam, chloe and graham came over again. we played and crafted until 10ish then we went outside until lunch time. it was again such a beautiful, fall-like day outside! graham and T napped while Al ran to the grocery store and got the oil changed. once the kids got picked up and T was awake, all 3 of us packed up and drove up to mom's house.

Friday morning, mom, Al, T and I packed up our vehicle full and took off towards uncle jimmy's cabin. we had all day to get up there so we made some stops along the way and got up to the cabin at about 3 pm. we got unpacked, set up T's blow up bed (which he slept great in!), and then went for a long walk with uncle jimmy. and i'm so glad we did because it ended up raining almost the entire rest of the weekend. :( we had a grill out for supper, put T to bed about 8 since he didn't get a nap, and maren, nick, tula and baby etta finally got there just before 9 pm. we helped them unpack, chatted for a bit, then went to bed.

Saturday morning, maren, etta and I went over to auntie polly (and uncle Ronnie's) cabin for our girls quilting day. we spent all day there; quilted, went for a walk in the little time that it stopped raining, ate, and talked. it was maren, etta, auntie polly, auntie judie, auntie Sheryl, and Kayli; it was a good day and we got our quilt done. maren, etta, and I headed back to uncle jimmy's cabin about 730. we made it back for bedtime. the boys, kids, and mom mostly spent the day in the cabin because of the rain but they did get out on the boat for a bit and T got to fish for a bit.

sunday morning it was still raining so we hung out for a bit, got packed up and headed out by 10 am to make sure we could make it back for softball. we stopped for lunch but made pretty good time and made it back to mom's house at 230. softball was at 4 & 5; it was humid, we got rained on, and the sun came out a couple times all within 2 games. we tied the first game and won the second. then I went back to mom's, changed, ate, packed up, and we drove back to eau Claire. we got home at 8ish and we were all beat, so we unpacked a bit then went to bed.

Monday I watched graham again all day and then that night T and I drove back up to mom's house.

2017 :: 33/52

Monday was still a rough day for Trevor's recovery, he only napped an hour before waking up crying, still took a half hour to be able to open his eyes upon waking, and didn't sleep great that night. after putting him to bed, I kept thinking that there was something wrong and it dawned on me that the only other times I've not been able to calm his crying is when he had ear infections. sure enough, when I went to lay with him b/c he was crying again at 630 he grabbed both ears and said they hurt. so we tried to get in to his pediatrician but they were all full, so T and I went to urgent care. he had a double ear infection!! ugh!! we got his prescription and went home to Al. T and I both napped for an hour before he woke up crying and then would sleep a little then cry over and over again until I just got him up. he again had trouble even opening his eyes due to swelling and the brightness of the day. :(

we played lots of games and such that afternoon/night but he'd every once in a while cry and say he couldn't keep his eyes open. I felt bad pumping him with so much meds, but he just didn't feel good. so he had his antibiotic for the ear infections 2x/day, rotating ibuprofen and Tylenol, and his eye drops 2x/day; his poor tummy! still didn't eat well and what little I could see of his eyes are so red and kind of filmy. :(

Wednesday morning we went to play outside at Jodi's house for a bit and T did great; we played outside and he had his sunglasses on the whole time. his eyes were a bit tired, swollen and extra sensitive when we got home so we did a quick lunch, books and nap. then after nap we walked to the park to meet Jodi and the kids to play for a bit. once home, Al made BLT's that were delicious and we played games until bed time.

Thursday was a much better day! Trevor didn't need any ibuprofen or Tylenol until bedtime!!! and he's doing much better getting his drops in! it rained most of the day so we played lots of games in the morning, then Al and T went to menards while I finished up my sewing for quilting next weekend. then it was lunch and nap in which T didn't fall asleep until 230 which is much more normal for him! during nap time I ran to aldi; it's weird going grocery shopping with Trevor! :) after nap, we played inside for a bit and then went to hangar 54 for supper with the neighb's. our food took an hour to come out and T's eyes were about done. :( so we came home, did drops and meds, and then Jodi and I went to the mall for a bit. Thursday was Trevor's "best friend" Easton's last day at Jodi's house for daycare. :( and T's other friend, Luke's last day at Jodi's before he's gone at school most days. it's gonna be weird over there with much less kids!

Friday morning T woke right up and went out into the sunny living room right away! his eyes looked much less swollen and we can start to see white in his eyes again! the sun did get to his eyes eventually but then we just went into the dining room to play and eat. after while, Thaeden came over to play for a little bit while his mom went to a doctor's appt and then cam and chloe came over to play about 1030 so Jodi could go to the start of volleyball season. Thaeden was only here a little over an hour and matt picked up cam and chloe about 1. Friday night and Saturday trevor and I just hung out around our house, played outside, played games, etc. then once Jodi was done with volleyball, we went over to have supper and relax with her, cam and chloe.

sunday T and I drove up to mom's house for softball. it was our last night of summer ball so we had lots of the kids and spouses and grandparents there, and had a grill out/potluck afterwards. it was super hot and humid, and we lost (we ended up getting 3rd place after being towards the bottom at the beginning of the season) but the grillout was fun!

Monday morning Trevor and I went to the big park in woodbury to play and auntie Jodi, luke and Henrik came and played with us there. I ended up fainting at the park from my bad stomach ache so Jodi watched all 3 boys while I dealt with that and then they came back to mom's house with us until mom got there just before lunch. I eventually felt better so we packed up and drove home about 2, before the rain came. we took a short nap once home and then did nothing all night.

Tuesday was Al's Friday and he worked 9a-530p. cam and chloe came over about 645a and graham came over about 8 for me to watch all day while Jodi was at volleyball. it was pretty easy with all of them! we ate, played playdoh, went outside, had lunch then nap for graham and T.

Trevor's eyes are looking SO much better! they're mostly white with some yellow and a tiny bit of red left, and he seems to have no issues with them any more!!

2017 :: 32/52 :: Trevor's eye surgery

Al had Tuesday-sunday off this week for Trevor's surgery. Wednesday morning we ran some errands, played at a park, and had Chinese for lunch. then after nap Al grilled brats and shrimp and made some awesome shrimp sauce for supper. we watched a movie before bed.

Thursday morning I went garage saling and to a consignment sale while Al and T went to the children's museum. once I got back, I saw Jodi and the kids at the park down the street so I walked down there. I flagged Al down on their drive back and he dropped Trevor off to play with his friends at the park for a while. when we got home, Al had lunch made then books and nap. Thursday night after work, mom came down to go with us bright and early the next morning for T's surgery.

A 4 am alarm woke us on Friday morning, when Al, mom and I got ourselves ready for the drive/day in Marshfield. then we loaded up the car, I grabbed T from bed, had him go potty and put him right in his carseat. he slept the whole way to Marshfield. we needed to check in at 630, we got there just after 6 am. checked trevor in, went potty, and played/waited in the waiting room. a little after 7 we were called back to trevor's prep room where we met a lot of nurses and doctors, T got changed into his gown, vitals taken, the kid's nurse heather came in with some toys to ease T, and then he was given the first of 3 things for the anesthesia (just a muscle relaxer). soon after a large male nurse came and said it was time to go, and before i knew it Trevor was walking away surrounded by nurses and i couldn't go with him. i bawled! after calming down, we went back to the waiting room where 5 minutes later heather came out and told us T was sleeping peacefully and she had played with him the whole time. that helped me a bit plus they'd told us his muscle relaxer would also help him not remember much.

we had a chart on a tv to watch and we saw that his surgery started at 735 and was supposed to be done by 935. at about 9 am his line turned orange meaning he was done or close to it. shortly after, Dr Anderson came out to tell us the surgery went well. we were anxious to see T after that but he slept quite a while in the first recovery room (which we weren't allowed to go in) and finally they came to get us saying he was waking up. i swear the nurse walking us back to him couldn't have walked any slower; i was so anxious to see him and hold him! we saw his little blonde head on a bed and when we got up to him he was curled in a ball whimpering. i said, "hi baby" and he sat up quickly and said, "hi momma." i picked him up, he laid his head on my shoulder and started quietly crying again. i said, "it's ok, momma's here" and he stopped crying and fell asleep. we got a small room to recover/wake up in but he didn't really wake up much, mostly just laid/slept on me. he did have some apple juice and 2 small popsicles. eventually he wanted to get up and go to nana, so he walked over. a nurse came in to give us info and another came in to do his last set of vitals. we then got him dressed, carried him out for all of us to pee, and then i carried him out to the car. he slept the entire way home, even when we stopped for food (we hadn't eaten much all morning).

the rest of Friday Trevor was still pretty out of it, and really sleepy. he took an hour and a half nap in bed with nana, fell asleep on the couch, and couldn't keep his eyes open very long at a time. the rest of the weekend was a bit of a rough, slow recovery. his eyes looked horrible, he would whimper/cry a lot, he had lots of ibuprofen and Tylenol, didn't sleep great, and had a hard time opening his eyes after waking up especially in the mornings. the brightness of the sun was a lot for him to take in the mornings. they had told us by the second day he'd be back to his normal self and should have little to no pain. but that wasn't really the case for T. we played a lot of games and took lots of little rests for his eyes. putting in his anti-bacterial drops were not easy but with 2 or 3 of us, we got them in.

mom left sunday morning and then i drove up about 2 for my great aunt sara jane's birthday party and for softball at 5. we won against a good team and then i drove back home to ec to help Al with the pm drops.

Monday morning it again took T a good half hour to open his eyes in the morning and not to cry from the brightness (it was even cloudy that day and we didn't open the curtains). i wasn't feeling good about his recovery from what they had told us, so i called the doctor/nurse. i first talked to the nurse and she sounded concerned and asked where we lived (assuming we were probly going to need to go in at that point). she took down all i told her about T and said she'd call back after taking to dr Anderson. an hour later, we heard from her and dr Anderson said everything T was going through was normal and some kids are just more sensitive than others. Monday morning i saw yellow in T's eyes and wasn't sure if that was healing or infection, but she said it was healing, kind of like a bruise turns yellow as it's healing. so we didn't have to go in, just keep moving forward and giving T ibuprofen to help ease the swelling and pain. Al worked only Monday this week, so once he left for work, T and i went over to Jodi's to play outside with our friends for a little bit. T wore his sunglasses the whole time and it was nice for both of us to get out of the house and see our friends. then we came home for lunch and nap (T didn't nap until 3 pm, much more normal for him :]). hoping we're on the up swing and my boy's poor eyes are better soon!! also really hoping he won't remember any of this.

not many pictures this week and i'm not yet comfortable posting pics of his poor eyes. i may come back and add them later so i know where they are.
