baby ole :: 7th week

fist pump for being 7 weeks old!
and showing off his ninja skills :)
wednesday we went up to the cities to celebrate mom/grama's birthday. her birthday was thursday but since she has darts on thursday nights we made her dinner and dessert on wednesday night. we played some wizard (our new game that's like estimate) and mom got lots of trevor holding time! thursday we hung out most of the day, went for a walk in the gorgeous weather, and then headed back to bloomer. trevor was gassy/fussy a lot of the time the last couple of days. we went back to trying the gas drops with every feeding.
he loves being outside! he instantly comes down.
and loves going for walks; this time in the sling.
thursday was nice enough weather that trevor didn't have to be in a fleece one piece (plus i was ready for him to be in some different clothes :]). he's ready for football season already!
touchdown

friday morning we rented catching fire and watched it! besides that we only accomplished some naps.:) saturday really felt like a monday after having been in the cities and starting al's work week. once we realized it was actually the weekend, we had to cope with the fact that mom was not coming down this weekend to keep us company. :( but she was off having a fun state bowling, birthday partying weekend and she deserved it! also saturday, trevor finally fell asleep on his own in the pack n play, which he was having trouble doing since we borrowed it from mom (since hers has the bassinet net on it which keeps him higher up and easier for me).
 loving his musical giraffe! :)
saturday night trevor and i had our first adventure out just the 2 of us. i was extremely nervous, just for the car ride because he typically cries at least once and it's a hard cry which i hate. and since his carseat is behind the driver's side, i can't see him or help him. (we may have to switch that) we went to the risen's house for a usbourne (children's) book party. and he did so good. he slept the entire way there and for the first hour of the party. then i fed him, burped him, ordered him some adorable books, and we headed home. he cried once on the way home but was pretty quickly over it, so that made me feel better.

we also found out saturday that shane and jodi are having a boy as well!!! they're gonna be 6 months apart and gonna have so much fun playing together!! al was right, it really is the year of the boy. :)

overnight saturday i woke up and was dizzy; i think it was a combo of not eating enough for dinner (i thought i'd eat more at the party than i did and was doing too much when i got home to remember) and my neck really bothering me. i need to make sure to stretch it every day (still having issues from computer work and bad posture for so long...)

sunday was a tough day; trevor was really fussy and crying hard most of the morning. the only times he was not crying was in momma's arms but that didn't last long. he finally fell asleep at 230 on our bed in daddy's spot :) so we took a little family nap (sans al since he had to work) and when the sun came in our windows i had to rig up a fort of sorts to keep the sun from his face. i was not going to attempt to move him. he was still a little fussy after that but not nearly as bad and he slept great that night. i gave him some thawed breast milk in a bottle (which he's not used to anymore) at the party on saturday, so i'm wondering if that had an effect on his tummy? he did spit up a big portion sunday evening which he rarely does. i did a little bit of research and it sounds like it's normal for infants to cry while pooping and/or passing gas because they don't know how to do it exactly. they tend to tense up instead of relaxing to let it out, which sounds a lot like him. so i tried pumping his legs and trying to calm him down (he loves his nuk most of the time and doesn't keep/need it for long), and it seemed to work and help. hopefully he'll be over it soon.

monday trevor rolled over for the first time!! from stomach to back/side, to his right. i'm not sure if he intended to or if it was more he was tired so put his head down and then went with it. but still my baby is growing up...

baby ole :: 6th week

i couldn't decide on a picture for this week (even tho i have him in the same outfit as last week, oops!); he was too cute and smiled! also the one on the right is some sweet air guitar! :) happy 6 weeks sweet, adorable boy!!

wednesday i looked out the window and saw a chicadee in our tree!! that's huge for a couple of reasons: 1. spring is hopefully actually coming. 2. we never have birds here, between the out door cats and tator, i hadn't seen any birds or wildlife . and 3. i love chicadee's! they remind me of my grama and really makes me want to get my tattoo!!

thursday trevor must have had a growth spurt. he slept well wednesday night and then slept ALL DAY thursday, mostly in his crib. he was awake a tiny bit in the morning, just enough for me to try my favorite outfit on him and then to eat. i was afraid he wouldn't sleep at night, but he did!!

mom came down again this weekend and it's always so nice and needed. just to have a couple extra hands especially in the mornings when he's awake and fussy. it helps that she also helps clean and cook :) she was essential in my ability to get a bunch of nagging tasks on my to-do list done. i was able to organize all our donate/sell stuff (7 bags & 1 large box full!), clean the floor around our entrance door really well (it was full of sand and salt), and organize 2 large closets! feels SO good to get things like that done; especially while reading the happiness project where she's doing the same thing.

trevor's starting to be able to see things and loves to spend some time on his playmat with all the fancy colors, whereas before he'd just lay on it. now he's very active and can even kick some of the toys. he's also getting good at tummy time; he's never hated it but would only hold his head up for a second or two.

he's really getting too long for his bassinet but neither al nor i are ready for him to be out of our room, so we're trying to figure out if we should put a playpen in our room or just bite the bullet and put him in his room/crib. he naps in his crib pretty well but we have seperation anxiety :) plus he makes a lot of noise at night so i'm afraid i'd be going in there a bunch instead of just being able to stand up and have him right there. we'll see...

on sunday night i had my first semi-traumatic momma moment. i was clipping his finger nails and i got a portion of the skin on his middle finger. he cried and was bleeding a lot, everywhere. and of course he was wearing a white outfit. lucky for me, trevor is a tough guy! he only cried for a little bit and was pretty patient with me while i figured out what to do to get it to stop bleeding. i took him up into the bathroom and held a kleenex on it but he kept wiggling and it kept bleeding. i considered putting liquid bandaid on it since i didn't think we had a bandaid small enough nor that one would stay on his tiny finger, but i also knew how much that stings. i eventually found a small bandaid and was able to get it on his finger. it only stayed on for about an hour or so but it was long enough to stop the bleeding. i apologized to him many times and kissed his boo-boo, hopefully he forgave me. i than finished the rest of his nails so that both us would immediately get over any nail clipper fears we might have.

knock on wood, but trevor slept really well all nights this week! he's getting about a 4-5 hour feeding/sleeping in right when i lay him down and then usually up just one other time about 4-5ish in the morning. hopefully he's gotten used to it and this will continue and his sleep stretches will get longer. we only have a little ways to go for him to be getting up only once a night.

i am feeling good although i still feel so flabby; i suppose 6 weeks out isn't all that long for skin and muscles to readjust but i really dislike the back rolls i can feel touching. i've been doing a little bit of working out: dumbbell work along with core and pushups, also some stretching. i'm hoping to hit the batting cages soon and to get out and attempt some runs/sprints if the spring weather will come back. i am still really really thirsty when breast feeding; it's on cue. he starts eating, i get immediately thirsty, like "gotta have water NOW" thirsty. i haven't been too hungry except if i'm up feeding him at the 4 o'clock hour, then i'm starving. any other hour during the night i'm fine.
fits in my favorite outfit now!! :)

 hanging out with daddy
an attempt to photograph his little blonde mullet :)

playing a little air guitar
from this angle, his nose looks just like al's
you probly can't see him cuz he's camouflaged,
but there's a cute little baby sleeping on me :)

pregnancy overview

this post is mostly for myself so that i have one place to look back for time of when things happened.

-knew i was pregnant: had an inclination right away due to cramping and upset stomach, but not sure until the test was taken after 3 days of missing my period. first try.

-first heartbeat: heard at 10 weeks (the midwives don't see you until 10 weeks); it was very fast, 170

-first movement: week 17

-started showing: 23 weeks, but seemed to "pop" at 25 weeks.

-first stretch marks: week 30 (also coincides with the start of christmas cookies :])

-gained 34 lbs

-1st trimester: lots of nausea, esp in the mornings at work, needed to eat every 1-2 hours until about 2 pm after which i would feel full/icky from eating too much, ate a lot of carbs and crap that i hadn't wanted to but needed to get something in me. hip ache/pain esp on right side started at the end of the day esp after/during softball (sacrioliac). started noticing getting out of breath much easier.

-2nd trimester: felt much better, little to no nausea right from the start/turn of the trimester. still hip aches/pain esp with fall ball being double headers. tried out chiro to help but with so much softball hard to say if it helped or not. attempted a crossfit workout and did well but took me 4 days to recover.

-3rd trimester: heartburn! hip ache/pain almost every night esp when getting into bed, waves of tired but not too bad, his movements were startling and not predictable, felt large, got more stretch marks right at the end, only pregnant to 38.5 weeks, got lots of sleep usually 9-10 hours a night, he would get the hiccups often

-birth: water broke (possibly because body didn't want to deal with having influenza/being sick and being pregnant especially since labor progressed slowly) at 38w2d, didn't feel contractions until 7ish hours later, got pitocin at 9 am (at an 8 level, low), progressed really fast after that, back labor/contractions which were HORRIBLE, got epidural (amazing!), napped, got another fever & then started pushing, an hour of pushing and he was out! almost 2 hours of skin to skin

baby ole :: 5th week

this week, it finally started warming up! spring may be coming after all! this was such a long, cold, snowy winter. the worst in 25 years or so, say some news channels. we got outside a little bit more.
3/11/14

wednesday we tried to catch up on sleep since we had a rough night tuesday night. i think because he's been so gassy he gets uncomfortable especially when laying flat. tuesday night i eventually had to put him on the chair in his boppy and he slept like a rock. ever since then he's done ok flat in his bassinet.

then wednesday night the risen's came over and brought papa murphys pizza. although it was short, it was a good time and the pizza was delicious!! their kids are so cute!!

thursday trevor had his 1 month appointment with dr sarumi; we really like her! she said he's still perfect and still a keeper. :) and he's a big, growing boy! last appt (3 weeks ago) he was 7 lbs 14 oz and 19.5 inches long. he is now 9 lbs 7 oz and 21 1/4 inches long!! that's about 1.5 lbs and almost 2 inches in 3 weeks! crazy! at least we know he's eating well! :]

friday was a rough day. trevor has come into a few day routine of being awake/fussy all morning then sleeping all afternoon and making me think he's not gonna sleep all night, but he has so far. he also is starting to eat every 4 hours now instead of every 3 hours; we like that!! (as long as he's getting enough food) saturday mom came down again and held trevor all morning while he was awake. then saturday afternoon when al went to work, mom, trevor & i went to shopko for diapers and to get out of the house. we also had dairy queen (surprise surprise with mom here :]) and then mom made supper.

sunday we hung out and mom stayed so i could nap in the afternoon. sunday night was a little rough for me after a not so good weekend; trevor was awake from 4-630a and so i got no sleep during that time. al could tell i was frustrated so he took trevor downstairs at 630a so i could get a little more sleep. i felt bad since al had to work but al was in a good mood about it, thankfully! then i had my follow up appointment with the midwife at 1030a. i decided to leave trevor home for this one since al didn't have to work until 3p, both for a little time away for me and to help give al some confidence in his baby watching ability. nothing big or new at my appointment, just questions asked on both ends; she didn't even check my bottom since i knew that i have a couple of stiches left and don't feel any pain/issues. i also ran some errands while in ec and when i returned, the boys were fine. trevor had gotten hungry so al fed him some of the formula we had gotten for free (samples) and trevor was asleep on al. i took him and put him in his crib and he slept there for almost 3 hours!! a first. i'm hoping it's not just because of the formula and his fussiness is not all from my milk. although i have no problem switching him to formula, it's just much cheaper and supposedly better for him to breastfeed. also easier since i'm not going back to work; plus al really wants me to breastfeed for a long time.

the weather on monday was glorious!! sunny and 50 degrees! so once trevor got up from his nap, i put him in his moby wrap for the first time and we took tator on a walk. it was fabulous although there was a little wind so i mostly kept his face covered. also, i'm out of shape!! we only went a little ways and i was winded, guess we'll have to keep it up! :) i'm also hoping wearing him will help me use and develop my back muscles especially for posture, since while wearing him i notice very quickly if my posture is crap.

we also got a new cousin monday morning!! baby girl burge was born at 359am, just short of 5 weeks from trevor! they'll be so close in age; great for at the lake!!

tuesday was another nice day! and i think (hope) trevor is getting over his fussiness. he slept great monday night, was much less fussy during the day, and his poop changed back to yellow, mustardy, seedy (it had changed to funny green/gray which dr said is normal). hoping his tummy has gotten used to my milk and this continues! we went for another walk with al this time and trevor fell asleep almost instantly in the moby wrap. also, this morning i went to put one of his newborn fleece one piece outfits on, after putting his feet in, i couldn't get his arms in. as in i couldn't stretch it up enough to comfortably get it on him. thinking he grew in the last 2 days. :/ he's getting so big!

he's napped in his crib for the first time,
a couple of times this week. we try to put him in there at least once a day.
(although i don't know if i'm ready for him to be in there at night,
don't think i'll like not having him in our room with us...)
we went outside for a little bit on wednesday when it was nice & sunny.
we had to document how high the snow piles are.
first time in the snow in a snowsuit that's too big but adorable!!
big muscles :: gun show :)
first time in skye's bouncy seat :]
tator has to sit at my feet when i feed trevor, especially at night.
so cute & such a good protector!
 holding on to grama
finally warm enough to not have to wear fleece,
big boy outfit (3month onsie, nb pants) complete with dinosaur slippers :)
this little dinosaur attached to a nuk (wubbanub) has been a life saver.
he takes a nuk just fine but hasn't figured out how to keep it in his mouth yet.
he usually doesn't need the nuk for long but for the times he does,
this little guy keeps the nuk more in place. (gina gave it to us, i found it on amazon)
i love that trevor's hugging it here :)

trevor was very active during playtime on his 5 week birthday!
it was fun watching him for tator, daddy and me!
 during our walk on tuesday,
al and tator went to investigate in the woods
but found some very deep snow :)

baby ole :: 4th week / 1 month

this week, daddy had to go back to work on thursday :( which also meant that he had to shave off his 3 week baby beard. he can't have any facial hair at work other than a mustache. it wasn't as hard of a transition as i had thought but that's probably because he works 3-11s and we go to bed about 7 or 8. it also means that al gets home almost perfectly timed for a feeding usually. his work week seemed extra long tho because he ended up working 3 11 or 12 hour days.

it was also very cold over the weekend and i got mad at it and eventually turned up the thermostats (once we got what is hopefully our last delivery of very expensive propane). mom came down saturday afternoon and stayed until sunday. we were not ready for her to go as we're used to having her friday night to sunday, but she did help me get some much needed sleep saturday night.

on tuesday, march 4th, trevor turned both 4 weeks and 1 month old (due to february being a short month). i can't believe it's been a month already!! he also had his appointment with the audiologist this day since his right ear didn't pass the initial screening in the hospital (the nurse had told us not to worry, that lots of babies don't pass and are not deaf, due to many factors from birth) and he passed and is all good.

we're still working on establishing a routine and figuring out how to keep him awake more during the day and sleep more at night. i wake him every 3 hours during the day to eat and attempt to keep him awake for as long as possible afterwards by playing and such, but he's a stubborn boy! if he wants to sleep, he's gonna sleep :)

momma (this may be more info than you wanted to know but i want to document these things for mmysefl): this week i attempted going first a full night and then full days without wearing pads (both breast pads and bottom pads) and was successful!! i feel so much more normal!! my boobs still leak occasionally at night but not much and not often. i also did an actual workout on tuesday (4 weeks post partum). i had been doing some squats and good mornings, and small planks & abs for a week or so along with some stretching, so i felt confident trying an actual workout. i didn't want to do too much however, so i emailed the all knowledgable (and doula) malia and she sent me 3 pieces to do to re-establish my stability and try to gain some stamina. it was a tough workout (i'm really out of shape!) but it felt good. i'm hoping that this is kind of like starting over and i can create some better habits and muscle usage.
trevor is starting to see more so we attempted to play on the playmat the perrens gave us. i don't think he really saw the toys yet but hopefully soon. he turns his head to the side most of the time so once he gets some more neck strength he'll be able to look up and see them.

he helped me with laundry :)
