baby ole :: week 19

saturday was our walk to defeat ALS for auntie diane in eagan. al, mom and i headed over for a beautiful day and a good walk. my hips were unhappy and luckily it was only 1.5 miles instead of the 3 (5k) it was supposed to be. our team raised the most money and we had a good sized group! then al and i were supposed to head back to eau claire for a wedding reception but al got a migrane. which was actually ok for me since i got to nap and rest my hips. then softball on sunday and monday were a little rough on the ol' hips too considering i got on base almost every time up and we had no extra girls/subs. also, i've been going to dr angie (chiropractor) every week for a while and had a big adjustment of my neck and hips and pubic bone before softball on monday.

aside from my hjps/pubic pain, i'm feeling great! i just have to remind myself that softball is almost over, and i'm going to miss it once it is. after that i can moderate the amount of movement i do at once which should help the hip pain greatly.

we have had beautiful weather this week although still a bit hot for this incubator. :) i had my first test on wednesday and i left it feeling unhappy with my performance. not that i didn't know how to do most of it, just that i didn't do as much of it as i had hoped. i finished it in terms of what i had to get done but there were extra questions that i wanted to get to. after a frustrating drive to the cities after the test, i went to softball. it was our last game and our theme was halloween costumes. i had a blast! it was just what i needed and to top it off, my hips did not hurt! i was able to play every inning and position that i wanted and i even got a home run (2 days shy of 20 weeks and in a bee costume!). :)

thursday we got our tests back and i got an 89!! B+; much better than i expected and the best grade out of my group. we also get to do some extra credit in which i can bring this up to an A-. i'm still unhappy with my performance of not finishing all the questions but i'll take the grade and i'll work harder towards the next test.

How far along: 19 weeks

How big is baby: size of a mango

Weight gain/loss: 5-7 pounds

Stretch marks: none
Sleep: still sleeping pretty well
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: sweets; not good. and veggies, preferably of the fresh, raw variety. it's hard to get the fresh veggies in currently due to me not being home 4 days/3 nights a week; they go bad quickly. but i'm looking forward to making food (and my lunches regularly) again once softball is over.

Movement: feeling some movement daily
What I'm loving: the weather; cooler temps, especially at night.
Symptoms: still lots of pubic bone/muscle pain and rear hip pain after softball and while walking. dr angie says it's my round ligament in the front (according to her, it is VERY tight).

What I'm looking forward to:  trying some prenatal yoga and stretching to help ease the hip pain, a weekend at home, cooler temps, and of course the gender reveal on monday!!

Best moment of the week: no pain in the hips during/after softball on wednesday, test results, and having some time home.
How I'm feeling: i still feel like i'm not showing much; like it still just looks like a gut. and at half way through i thought i'd officially look pregnant (thanks long torso). i'ts a good thing and a bad thing. most of the time, i'm ready for people to know that i'm pregnant by looking at me. but i like it at other times because it's not obvious; especially at school. i'm already the old married lady, adding knocked up to it makes me uneasy.

baby ole :: week 18

this week started with going to some kids consignment sales. first, after work on friday i went to the eau claire ones, which were good but would have been better if i could/needed to get clothes. i got 3 bags of infant tags and 2 bags of infant books for less than 15 bucks; great deal! then al, tator and i drove up to the cities and to manda and johnny's house. we hung out for a bit, then manda and i headed to the woodbury jbf sale for the half price night. the prices were much higher (one of the toys i got in a bag of others for $3 in ec, the one toy alone in woodbury was $10) but they actually had maternity clothes. i got some shirts, a pair of black pants and one pair of used jeans for cheap ($3 for the jeans!). i also found a smaller version of one of the toys al said he'd wanted (the wooden bead one that is usually at the dentist or doctors office).

then al and i played in a one day co-ed tourney in oakdale with the beaver liquors plus a couple replacements (including the benyseks!) as a fundraiser for a 32 year old guy who had died running in from the outfield that summer. it was one pitch which i had never done, but it was really fun! we played 4 games (should have won the last one but couldn't hit), and al did great! especially hitting.

on sunday, i went back up to the cities for a family get together since cousin torie was in town. and then played 2 more softball games sunday night, 2 monday, and 2 wednesday. so. much. softball. :)

i went to my 18 week doctors appt on tuesday and the midwife said the heartbeat sounded fabulous. nice and steady (and fast at 150, does that mean girl??). 2 weeks until we find out the gender!!!

i swear, in about 4 days this bump appeared :)
 we also announced on facebook this week that we're expecting. a little later than i had originally thought but i hadn't been ready and didn't have an idea for how to announce it. until i realized i could easily do football onsies, although it caused a little bit of confusion on an implication of twins. we're having a lil VIKINGS (or packers) fan; or being the important word. :)

How far along: 18 weeks

How big is baby: size of a sweet potato

Weight gain/loss: about 5 pounds

Stretch marks: none
Sleep: still sleeping pretty well
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: i (as well as al) am loving ice cream :) still some aversions to meat but i think it's getting better. i've been wanting chili, lasagna, soup but really i think i'm just craving fall!

Movement: feeling some movement occasionally
What I'm loving: the cooler weather and some rain. and if i'm being honest, the boobs!! :) they're awesome! not by any means big, but in comparison, they're fantastic!
Symptoms: itchy belly and boobs a bit, still lots of pubic bone/muscle pain and rear hip pain after softball.

What I'm looking forward to:  gender reveal (need to start thinking of ideas), the als walk on saturday, my cousins wedding, and in all honesty, the end of softball.

Best moment of the week: cooler temps, having the midwife say the heartbeat was great, the facebook reveal
How I'm feeling: large-ish and a little sad that my favorite vest is already tight and that maternity vests are SO expensive.

baby ole :: week 17

i'm fairly certain i felt the first kicks/movements this week. i've been a bit gassy so i've tried really hard to be aware of exactly what that feels like and if anything feels different. early this week, i was stretched out watching tv with al when i felt something that was very different; slight and just once. and have felt it a couple of times since.

Football started this week!! go vikes! :)

i also decided, late this week, that i have too much on my plate. with all the drive time, softball, soreness in hips/pubic areas, work, and school with homework, it's all too much. so i dropped one of my classes (the harder one). i have mixed feelings about it because i wanted to be able to do it all. but in the end, on all counts, i think it's the best. it lets me focus on this one class and the actuarial exam that goes with it. i'm ok with my decision as of now; i hope it stays that way.

How far along: 17 weeks

How big is baby: size of an onion

Weight gain/loss: somewhere between 3-5 pounds

Stretch marks: none

Sleep: still sleeping pretty well

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: i think i'm doing better with food and eating now although i'm still not a big fan of meat.

Movement: felt the first "flutters" this week!
What I'm loving: thursday had gorgeous weather! 70* and breezy = amazing!

Symptoms: nothing really, although my allergies are so bad i don't think i'd notice if i did. i miss my nasal spray!! also, my jeans are starting to be uncomfortable in the front and had to loosen the belt another much. :) Been having some muscle aches in my pubic bone area (especially while walking) and sore hips after softball.

What I'm looking forward to: consignment sales this weekend, one day co-ed tourney that al's playing in, and midwife appt on tuesday next week.

Best moment of the week: thursday: cooler temps and relief of some stress
How I'm feeling: a little overwhelmed and unsure with everything but that is easing and should get easier once softball is done in october. hoping we can move closer to eau claire sooner rather than later so i can start planning the baby's room (once we find out gender).

baby ole :: week 16

this was a busy week. we went to the great minnesota get together (the state fair) on friday (al, mom and i) we ate a lot and thankfully it wasn't too hot, although i was still pretty warm. the australian battered potatos are still my favorite!! it was also a 3 day weekend in which i did nothing else outside of the house: due to the heat and wanting to relax and get things done before school started. i also didn't have softball sunday or monday night which was a great rest for my aching hips and pubic bone.

i made a list and got most of it done on monday. tuesday was techinically the start of classes but since i don't have class on tuesdays, wednesday was my first day. i felt ok after the first day although was slightly disturbed when in my math classes the professor indicated we'd be working in groups and have presentations. not what i want for a math class especially because i tend to work at a different pace then others and i don't want to feel like i'm holding people back if i can't remember parts of math since it's been so long.

after school wednesday i drove to the cities, had a chiro appointment, then headed to mom's to change and eat and off to softball. my hips bothered me again at softball, which displeased me greatly. i just want to feel good/decent and not be hurting. i want to be able to play softball; i wanted to still be able to do it all, while pregnant. but i am slowly but surely coming around to the fact that i cannot.

thursday was not such a great day. i was still hurting especially while walking to class and it was really really hot. i just couldn't grasp my financial math class info even though it was working with interest, which i know. so i went home and started on homework, which proved to be an epic failure. my probability homework took me all of 5 minutes. financial math, on the other hand, took me 3 hours for 10 problems; i just couldn't get it. i felt so frustrated and questioned if i should be doing school, both classes, tests, actuary, everything really.

luckily when i got to class friday, i wasn't the only one who struggled. still not liking the feeling but we'll see how next week goes.

Weight gain/loss: the scale changes daily, up or down, probably somewhere between 2-5 pounds

Stretch marks: none
Sleep: still sleeping pretty well
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: i think i'm doing better with food and eating now although i'm still not a big fan of meat.

Movement: none that i know of yet
What I'm loving: working only 5 hours a day.
Symptoms: nothing really, although my allergies are so bad i don't think i'd notice if i did. i miss my nasal spray!! also, my jeans are starting to be uncomfortable in the front.

What I'm looking forward to: cooler temps

Best moment of the week: the long weekend and the fair
How I'm feeling: nervous about school, hoping the temp drops and the allergies get better.

baby ole :: week 15

this week started with me being very sore. after doing too much last week, i was still feeling it. then i added 3 games of softball on saturday with kris on a women's team in a mostly men's tourney for woodbury days. it was fun (even though we lost our 2 actual tourney games) but i was never more sure that i needed to go see my chiropractor. so monday i called, made an appointment, and went to see dr angie on wednesday before softball. she adjusted my neck and hips, and low and behold my hips did not hurt during or after 2 games of softball that night!! thank goodness!! my neck, however, is going to take a lot more work, i'm afraid.

it was another hot week this week, which doesn't appease me. al came down to ec when i got off work on thursday and showed me around the uwec campus, we picked up my id card and textbooks, and figured out where i'll be parking. we also did the usual vanessa task of finding the exact door i'll enter the building and where my classroom is. :) i'm a planner who gets lost easily, especially in buildings. then we headed to red lobster to use our christmas gift card on the endless shrimp (we've been waiting so long!).

How far along: 15 weeks

How big is baby: size of an orange

Weight gain/loss: 1.5 pounds

Symptoms: pubic bone & muscle soreness

What I'm looking forward to: the state fair, a long weekend, then school...

Best moment of the week: the relaxing moments at home with al and tator
How I'm feeling: feeling better soreness wise but really, really nervous for school. i have a fear that i can't do it well anymore and won't remember anything when the classes i'm taking require lots of pre-requisites. it's scary but exciting. i've always wanted to go back to school, i just have to remember that. also, that i love math!

baby ole :: week 14

saturday was consumption days in withrow and heritage days in st paul park. i played volleyball with the greeders during the day and then went to manda's garage sale and heritage days with manda, johnny, their girls and jaci's girls. it was a fun day but a lot of time on my feet.

then sunday i didn't have softball (break between summer ball and fall ball!!) so i got to be home on sunday.

then monday started a rough week; i did too much this week. although i did start part time at work, which was nice, i did too much working out/exercise. i did crossfit for the first time in 3 months. the workout was fran.... then i played softball afterwards. on wednesday, 2nd day soreness, we had playoffs which entailed 3 games in a row. the final game was the championship so we had to play all 7 innings, therefore i had almost 4 hours in a row of softball. all that combined was too much for this girl; i was so sore for days afterwards. and not a good sore but a painful sore. was kind of a kick in the pants that i can't do everything...

we also had our 14 week doctors appt on wednesday; it wasn't much, just heard the heartbeat and got to ask questions. but did get to also make our ultrasound appt to find out the gender (on sept 30)!!

i forgot to take a picture this week.

How I'm feeling: exhausted and beat down; so very sore.

baby ole :: week 13

2nd trimester!! and so glad the nausea has gone away! starting to show a tiny bit but mostly just noticable by the fact that i can't suck in as far :)

this week began with our annual formal ball night on Sunday, where everyone including the boys wears dresses. it was fun again this year but we didn't play nearly as well.

this week was also my last week full time at menards since I'm going part time for school. exciting and nerve wracking. I'm very ready to have a little bit of down time and to get to sleep. I have to start studying up on the calculus next week as a refresher...

How big is baby: size of a peach

Weight gain/loss: 1 pound

Symptoms: none really

What I'm looking forward to: sleep, parttime,
hopefully getting rid of some crap at mandas garage sale, and consumption days volleyball tourney with meg.

Best moment of the week:
How I'm feeling:

baby ole :: week 12

this week began with the annual trip to the washington county fair with mom and my greeders. meg also had some tag-a-long kiddos which made for a busy and exhausting day. it was lots of fun as usual tho. then on saturday mom came to bloomer and al accompanied us to the "big" bloomer fair; which was tiny. and old. :) the rides were so old i had trouble figuring out what they were, particularly the tilt-a-whirl. but we got to watch the horse shows, see some animals, had delicious food that supported local sports teams, and walked through the merchant building which actually gave away cool stuff. we got to talk with some of the locals too, which was nice.

then al had to go to work so mom and i went shopping in eau claire. i hadn't been shopping in months and i figured out why: it's expensive :) baby ole may have gotten a couple of really cute old navy one piece outfits! also, i took mom to cherry berry for frozen yogurt for her first time. and no surprise, she's addicted. so yummy!

then on sunday, al, tator and i headed up to the cities to shane & jodi's house for a fantasy football draft. it was a good time and so good to see jodi and shane and their pups! tator was tuckered upon leaving!

it was a very busy weekend and that on top of my nausea going away, meant that i forgot to eat often. i ate less in 2 days than i had in a long time without realizing it. i had to call in sick on monday and leave early on tuesday. i'll be sure not to do that again. :)

also, summer softball would normally be over this week but with the long winter we had, we have 2 weeks of make up games. this means no break between summer and fall ball. i could really use that break... playing fall ball on all 3 teams!

How far along: 12 weeks

How big is baby: size of a plum

Weight gain/loss: 1 pound

Stretch marks: none
Sleep: still sleeping pretty well; had one night where i must have slept on my neck wrong, was in pain for days.
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: aversions to meat, no food ever sounds good and very little tastes great when i eat it. fruit tastes the best. it's not fun force feeding myself every time i eat.

Movement: none
What I'm loving: sleep :)
Symptoms: the waves of nausea definitely were at bay starting this week, and by the end of the week were nearly gone. although the couple i did get came in the evenings instead of the usualy mornings.

What I'm looking forward to: a non-busy weekend and vikings football starting!! also one week of full time at menards left, then go to part time!

Best moment of the week:  cheese curds and cherry berry with mom
How I'm feeling: exhausted and a little defeated on the eating front. also very nervous for school to start in 3 weeks.

baby ole :: week 11

this week brought about the crossfit games!! and a mud volleyball tournament in bloomer on saturday! i played with trina on a menards team, there was another menards team in it as well as my brother put together a team. although the weather was in the 50s it was so much fun!! after losing our first game, we ended up taking 4th and beating the other menards team. :) and tyler's team, which included cousins aryn and anderson, ended up winning the whole thing! takes a minnesota team, i guess :]

watching the crossfit games is always so motivational; i want to try just about everything they do (except for the running). it's a great time and contrary to what i thought, i was able to stream them on my computer at home (we have crappy, slow, middle-of-no-where internet).

How I'm feeling: ready for the tired and icky feeling to be done.

baby ole :: week 10

this week brought cooler, unlikely weather for july and i'm so thankful! makes being outside and just general life much better.

this week started off with joining manda and her girls and beff and her kids watching the boys' softball team in a tourney in rosemount on saturday. then manda, eva and i headed to the firemans tourney (my fav) on sunday, where we met up with lon. it was beautiful weather and a fun weekend of softball watching. we had a double header on my sunday night league which pleased me after just watching all weekend. i even dove twice while playing second.

on monday, we had our first official doctors appointment and we heard the heartbeat! crazy, a little bittersweet, and made it really real. contemplating when to just start telling everyone the news; i have yet to tell work and i'm still having feelings that i'm just not ready for everyone to know yet....

baby ole - week 9

this week, the weather was VERY hot and humid! disgusting! i was very uncomfortable and refused to go outside unless absolutely necessary.

we recieved information that maren lost her baby (she was 2.5 weeks ahead of me). this info was really tough on me and still is; probably will be for a while. very hard to take at this point in time.

What I'm loving:  sleep :)
Symptoms: frequent, intense waves of nausea especially in the mornings, tired

What I'm looking forward to: cooler weather

Best moment of the week:  the weekend = sleep!
How I'm feeling: sick of the nausea, trying to get a balance with eating but giving into what's available which almost always equals not great food. makes me feel icky in many ways.

baby ole - week 8

we had our first visit to the clinic this week; although it wasn't an actual appointment, just an informational, pre-first visit prenatal session. one of the midwives taught it and there were 2 other couples in there with us. we got a lot of information and packets to take home. it was a great start and got a bunch of our initial questions answered. i also found out that this particular midwife does crossfit, too, so that was exciting. she understood my need/want to continue to lift. made me feel a little bit better about our having to go with this clinic due to insurance and a lack of other options.

they have a team of 6 midwives and 4 physicians. i had chosen to go with a midwife prior to this meeting and the info provided just solidified that decision. with this clinic you don't have just one midwife; you are to make appointments with all 6 throughout your pregnancy so that you know them all as you won't know who will be on call when you go into labor. i like this more than i thought i would. if you do find a favorite, you can attempt to make all your appointments with that one but i think we'll meet them all.

How far along: 8 weeks

How big is baby: size of a raspberry

Weight gain/loss: none

Stretch marks: none
Sleep: had some rough nights this week.

Diet/Cravings/Aversions: nothing yet. more aversions to meat

Movement: none
What I'm loving: the intake of info from the meeting and researching baby stuff. also, i told my wednesday night softball ladies this week and they were the most excited of all i've told (other than my mom).
Symptoms: frequent, more intense waves of nausea especially in the mornings, tired

What I'm looking forward to: being able to sleep this weekend, although al works 3p-3a friday and saturday so i'll still barely see him.

Best moment of the week: al and i getting to the clinic for the first time.
How I'm feeling: tired! it was a long full, 5-day work week with a late volleyball game on thursday.

baby ole - week 7

this week started off with a drive up to the cities on friday (after a quick, left work early, nap) and the warrior dash on saturday with manda, jaci, rob and brooke. i told them i was pregnant after we finished since i couldn't get the free beer. i had wanted manda to be the friend i told first. i was so happy to discuss pregnancy/baby things with manda and hope she's ready for how much more i'll be directing at her :)

How far along: 7 weeks

How big is baby: size of a blueberry

Weight gain/loss: none

Stretch marks: none, but i need to do some research/ask some questions on how to avoid these.
Sleep: sleeping normally (very well)
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: nothing really yet. some aversions to meet

Movement: none
What I'm loving: finishing the warrior dash (even tho i was rendered useless for the rest of the night with a sore body), 3 day work week, 4 day weekend (i actually get to see al and tator 4 days in row!)
Symptoms: more frequent waves of nausea (especially at work in the mornings; strange: i had no waves of nausea the morning of the warrior dash?),  tired, breast/nipple soreness

What I'm looking forward to: made my first dr's appt. it won't be until 10 weeks as the clinic i have to go to for our insurance doesn't see you until 10-12 weeks, but next week we have a prenatal seminar-thing at the clinic and al can attend too! i'm excited to get some more info! i have decided to go with midwives (there are 5-6 at our clinic and they recommend you see them all as you never know who'll be on call).

telling my friends and telling malia as i can't wait to figure out exactly how i need to alter lifting so that i can get back into it (i miss the soreness and strength/feeling of lifting) and to see when she can start doing prenatal massages :)

Best moment of the week: 4 day weekend!
How I'm feeling: nervous for all the changes coming: baby, school, possibly buying a house

baby ole - week 6

this week i went back to work and back to my crazy schedule after 8 days of vacation, which was tiring. it was also trina's last week at menards and so the volleyball team was going out after our game. i went out for a while with them but was strange not drinking so i went home realitively early. we won the beer trophy last year so it's a little odd not contributing to that this year. :)

How far along: 6 weeks

How big is baby: size of a sweet pea

Weight gain/loss: none

Stretch marks: none, but i need to do some research/ask some questions on how to avoid these.
Sleep: sleeping normally (very well)
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: nothing really yet. some aversions to meet

Movement: none
What I'm loving: al, for his happy/excited attitude and the fact that he puts up with my crazy schedule and how tired i've been (and how much i've been lacking in cleaning/laundry/general upkeep of the house)
Symptoms: more frequent waves of nausea (especially at work in the mornings), bloating/fullness in the afternoons/evenings, tired, my boobs are "filling out;" it's great!! :)

What I'm looking forward to: telling my friends, the weekend so i can hopefully get some sleep, and a 3 day work week next week for the 4th.

Best moment of the week: al's dad saying this might be the best news he's ever gotten. and our volleyball game/party was pretty fun.
How I'm feeling: exhausted this week after having vacation last week, tough to get back into. nervous about school: if i'll finish, spending all that money, possibly wanting to stay home with the kid, not getting a job afterwards, etc.

menards told me this week that they will be keeping me part time when i start school in the fall; such a relief! i will be driving down to eau claire 4 days a week for school so it's nice to be able to make some money while i'm down there too. very glad i don't HAVE to find a new job that would work around my school schedule.

baby ole - week 5

after finding out i was pregnant and subscribing to multiple phone apps, i remembered the website "the bump" which is affiliated with "the knot" that we used for our wedding. the bump has a handy dandy checklist and weekly updates. it reminded me to take weekly belly pictures, which after reading leah's blog throughout 2.5 of her pregnancys, i knew i wanted to do. i never would have thought to start so early, but i think i'll look back and be glad i did. so here we go (i am also using leah's format for writing about each week; thanks leah!)

please pardon the quality of the pictures and the recycling showing in this one; i'll get the hang of these things eventually (hopefully). :)
